Let’s talk goals… of a different kind. This week, “Heard in the Huddle” is tackling the age-old debate: “Schoolwork vs. Playing Time.” We all love Friday night lights. The roar of the crowd, the smell of freshly cut grass, the thrill of the game. But let’s be real, hitting the books is equally important. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But coach said grades don’t matter as much as wins!” Wrong.
* Grades are your ticket to the future. Whether it’s college scholarships, professional careers, or simply a brighter future, your grades open doors.
* Academic success builds character. It teaches discipline, perseverance, and the value of hard work – all essential qualities for a successful athlete.
* The field is temporary, education is forever. Injuries happen. Careers change. But your education will always be with you.
So, here’s the deal:
* Maintain your eligibility. Keep those grades up!
* Time management is key. Find a balance between practice, games, and studying.
* Seek help when you need it. Tutors, teachers, and your academic counselors are there to support you.
So for all our school athletes, remember, being a successful athlete is about more than just hat tricks and goals. It’s about being a well-rounded individual who excels both on and off the field.
Until next time cubs.

PMS Victory!
The Princess Margaret Lions went head to head against the boys from the Antigua & Barbuda Institute for Continued Education last Friday in a game that had spectators glued to the field. Both teams were tied for 2 with PMS securing the win through a last minute penalty goal. It was a good season for the boys of Princess Margaret with the Under 14 team placing 3rd and the Under 16 team placing 1st and thus remaining the undefeated champions in the age category. The Under 20 boys have secured another victory as we round the season for the boys.
A massive congratulations to ALL THE BOYS TEAMS for their resilience, sportsmanship and heart.

Let’s Talk Dirty
Red, Yellow, Green or Blue?
Competition, especially for events, is a dual-front battle. There are 4 events Music, Dance, Vocals and Drama, that make up the Princess Margaret Schools Inter-house competition and to stand out, you need to be the best. A good competition is when, we compete healthily in a way that brings out the best in us and everyone involved. It’s a way to challenge yourself and others while pushing those around you to raise the caliber and standards in competing. It allows you to tap into your potential and succeed. Winning the competition however, is a whole different ballgame. It’s not just about beating your competitors but understanding them, being motivated and good fighting spirit of determination. By focusing on improving upon what your competitors offer, you can carve out your own niche. The aim is to provide a superior, stronger, and innovative performance.
Everyone wants to be a winner, here are a few ways to slay your competition
- Know Your Competition-To outperform your competition, you first need to understand them inside and out. This isn’t just about knowing who they are it’s about understanding what they offer, how they operate, and where their strengths and weaknesses lie.
- Figure Out How You’re Different-focus on identifying what makes you unique. What can you offer that others don’t?
- Know Your Audience– Knowing the likes and dislikes of the audience goes a long way to winning a competition. The judges love crowd involvement so, if the audience gives the stamp of approval you’re in.
- Make Strategic Alliances– A strategic alliance should combine the best both of both parties, sharing resources, expertise, and capabilities while collaborating closely to achieve mutual benefits.
- Catch Them off Guard– Do something surprising, an ace in the whole. Having a special “secret weapon” can put you into the spotlight.
- Personalize
- Don’t Waste Your Time on Bad Fits– Not everyone will be able to assist in the production. Always use your best competitors on competition day.
- Watch out for sabotage– Sabotage comes in many forms, whether it be a Principal who loves to win or friends casually asking questions, be mindful that not everyone is there to help. Sometimes the simplest form of sabotage could be distraction.
- Don’t Let The Fear of Rejection Stop You From Showing Up.
- Develop a Winning Mindset-Go Beyond Talent And Use Your Strengths.
Good luck to ALL houses, may the best House win!
