Literacy – For An Enriching Break

We are approaching what hopefully promises to be a relaxing Easter break. As we wrap up this term, let’s pause for a minute to appreciate a skill that will enrich our time off, no matter where we are: literacy.

Literacy is just more than knowing our ABCs, it is the key that unlocks so much of the world around us. Think about it: during this term, we’ve used our literacy skills (reading and writing) to learn new things, share our ideas, and identify with stories and information. Now, as we anticipate the break from our regular routines, let’s consider that literacy can make our time off even more enjoyable.

So, why not pick up a book you’ve been meaning to read? Perhaps explore articles online about Easter traditions in different parts of the world? Maybe follow the recipe for a delicious Easter treat or the instructions for a fun craft? Or even write a letter or message to a friend or family member? Engaging with language in different ways can be a relaxing and rewarding part of your break.

Therefore, remember the power of literacy as you eagerly await the Easter festivities and the opportunity to unwind. It’s a skill that not only helps us in school but also improves our leisure time and connects us to the world around us.

But before we part ways, here are our Powerful Words . Today we feature the Letter “I”.

“Let your inspiration ignite a powerful wave of positive influence.”

The Science of Syllables

Several weeks ago, we began to explore the basics of syllabication. Today, we will explain the rules and importance of syllables.

But first let’s review:

Syllables are parts of spoken language that have one vowel sound.

Consonants can be placed before or after the vowel, creating different patterns (like “pi” and “lot” in pilot and “or” and “chard” in orchard). Sometimes, a syllable may not have a consonant, especially when a vowel sound stands alone (like “a” in “a-bout”).

Now, that we are up to speed. Let’s continue the exploration.

Why Syllables Matter?
